The Mysterious Song identified!

I’m overwhelmed with joy to learn that “The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet”, or “Like the Wind”, or “Blind the Wind”, or “Check It In, Check It Out”, or “Summer Blues”, or “Subways of Your Mind” has finally been solved. Sure, there are still some final things that are awaiting confirmation, but there’s every reason to believe this is the real deal.

This is the only song that’s always at the core of every Mysterious Music episode. It’s what got me involved in Lostwave, which in turn got me involved in creating YouTube content, which in turn got me in contact with several fellow music lovers to find and listen to forgotten songs. In an unexpected way, I owe a lot to this song; and I’m excited to know that the talented musicians behind this masterpiece have finally been identified and are getting the credit they deserve.
As you can tell, this song’s identification is huge for me on a personal level. Yes, I’ll make a video… eventually. When? I don’t know. There will come a time when I’ll crack a script for a video that expresses how much this journey, this channel, the Lostwave community and subscribers mean to me. For now, though, I’m just going to sit back, listen and enjoy the former Mysterious Song! Talk soon. Thanks, as always.

C. W. Schultz video about the suspicious mystery behind the Christine Chubbuck audio leak

C. W. Schultz released a video about the suspicious and mysterious audio leak of Christine Chubbuck‘s suicide.

Chubbuck was an American news reporter and host of the morning community affairs talk show Suncoast Digest. Because the broadcast of Chubbuck’s suicide took place in 1974, it’s highly unlikely that the footage of her suicide could’ve been recorded by a home viewer, since VCRs were such high cost and thus incredibly rare for a 1974 household to possess one. As such, Chubbuck’s suicide is considered lost media.

According to an article by Vulture, the video does still exist in the hands of Mollie Nelson, the widow of Chubbuck’s former employer. When this was publicized, Nelson started getting requests to see it, which made her uncomfortable. She says that the tape is now in the hands of a very large law firm for safekeeping and has no intensions of ever letting anyone see it.

In early 2021, Ataliste claimed to have acquired a legitimate cassette recording of the audio from the incident (via an undisclosed private collector), releasing a portion it to his YouTube channel. The audio aligns with the news covered in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune from the day of the incident, giving credibility to the audio’s authenticity.

Ataliste eventually released the audio in its entirety, but it has since been privated. Despite Ataliste’s attempts to remove the audio, others were able to download and re-upload it; resulting in it still being available.

Prior to 2024, only very limited footage of Suncoast Digest was available, which included a few seconds of Chubbuck conducting an interview (without audio). However, in February 2024, prominent Chubbuck researcher Tapesignal revealed she had been in contact with John Griffin, the creator of a documentary surrounding Chubbuck’s life. Griffin provided Tapesignal with a full Suncoast Digest episode hosted by Chubbuck. In April 2024, Tapesignal uploaded the episode to YouTube. It’s thought that this is the only known fully intact footage of Chubbuck still in existence.

With an increased amount of audio available of Chubbuck’s voice as a result of this resurfaced Suncoast Digest episode, a more accurate voice-to-voice comparison can be made with the supposed audio of her suicide…

And the similarities are uncanny! This comparison led many skeptics to concede that Ataliste claims are legit and that his audio of Chubbuck’s suicide is indeed authentic.

Given that all footage of Chubbuck’s suicide was thought to be lost (with the one exception being in Mollie Nelson’s attorney’s possession), Ataliste’s ability to retrieve audio of this tragic event is astonishing and impressive… but also mysterious and suspicious. Having a piece of Chubbuck’s death has made the impossible possible, leading some to think the full footage might eventually be released; however, if anything, this actually raises more questions:

  • How did Ataliste get his hands on the audio?
  • Who is this “private collector”?
  • What’s the reason for the secrecy behind protecting the collector’s identity?
  • Can the claims be substantiated that one of Christine Chubbuck’s brother is filing a lawsuit for the audio leak?
  • Could Ataliste know Nelson’s attorney, and the audio got leaked over a breach in confidentiality?
  • Who is Ataliste and how did he come into possession of something so sensitive?

One of the longest MYSTERIOUS MUSIC searches comes to an end!

In 2005, a 30-second clip of an unknown song was uploaded to the internet. After music enthusiasts spent years searching for the complete track, a longer (but still incomplete) version surfaced on YouTube in 2024. This major development sparked a resurgence in interest to identify the song once and for all….

January 14, 2024

Hello and welcome back! We’re two weeks into 2024 and I don’t know how to feel. My last post was published November 6, 2022… so, what happened in 2023?

Well, 2023 was a mixture of sadness and happiness. In terms of sadness, some of my favorite musicians passed away. To name a few: David Crosby, Harry Belafonte, Gordon Lightfoot, Sixto Rodriguez (the OG mysterious musician), Steve Harwell, Greg “Fingers” Taylor, and of course, Jimmy Buffett. In terms of happiness, the Lostwave community hit a new record for most identified songs in a year (143 songs!), surpassing 2021’s record of 124. Metrics gathered from this list. December 2023 alone closed cases on some of the community’s most sought after songs, specifically: “Filthy Frank’s Kenya Dance” was identified as “Katonda Alinawe” by David SonJC (watch episode for mystery), and “Fond My Mind” as “Feels Like A Wish” by Station K (watch episode for mystery). Since the beginning of recorded music, countless talented musicians have gone unrecognized. Thanks to Lostwave, some of these musicians and their songs can be enjoyed and remembered forever.

In November 2023, I ran a site update. This resulted in my notifications reverting back to an old email address, so no messages had been sent successfully from the contact and submit mysterious music forms. If you tried to submit a message to me between November 2023 and now, I didn’t get it and I apologize for keeping you waiting. Please consider resending your message, if it’s not too much trouble.

Now it’s 2024. I have a lot to look forward to, but it hasn’t been off to a good start. My cat (Snowpuff) had to be rushed to the emergency vet on Christmas Night after collapsing. Given Snowpuff’s age (18½ years old), known thyroid and heart disease, and the uncertainty of whether she had cancer, the vet let us know that it wouldn’t be unfair to euthanize Snowpuff right then and there. After careful consideration, my wife and I decided against it, knowing that Snowpuff wasn’t in pain. Instead, we decided this would be Snowpuff’s final visit to the vet, and that she’d spend her remaining days eating whatever she wanted and visiting her many friends.

On Tuesday (01/09/2024), Snowpuff had another episode, which resulted in her having difficulty breathing and moving, and refusing to eat. It was time. My wife and I had already made the decision that Snowpuff would gain her wings in the comfort of her own home, so I got on the phone with Lap of Love and a vet came out right away. Despite Snowpuff’s discomfort from trouble breathing and moving, the vet did an excellent job ensuring that Snowpuff’s final moments were peaceful and filled with love.

Today is easier than yesterday, and yesterday was easier than the day before, so we’re doing well. I can’t help but think that it might be difficult again once the weather starts to warm up. Snowpuff developed a pastime late in life of joining Charisma and me on walks around the neighborhood and hanging out at the outdoor bars at the top of the hill. A fluffy cat in a stroller brought a lot of smiles to passersby and fellow patrons.

Farewell, my fellow couch potato. Legends never die.

WHISPERING OF THE AUTUMN LEAVES – Release date announced!

C. W. Schultz’s fifth novel, Whispering of the Autumn Leaves, has finally been given a release date. The author will demonstrate his skills in writing sci-fi/fantasy for the first time, while still keeping the tongue-in-cheek humor and whodunit mystery that readers of his previous releases remember him for. After six years in the making, Whispering will be Schultz’s longest book in length, as well as turnaround time to publication. Hardcover and paperback editions will be available for purchase on Tuesday, September 6, 2022; as well as an eBook edition, which is available for pre-order.

After a series of strange events, the territory of Baromany is in an uproar. Prince Zondro, heir to the throne, has suddenly vanished just days after a strange craft was spotted floating in the sky. A shipwreck in the Frigid Sea has washed up a strange foreigner, Nilly Goamrock, onto the shores of Baromany. Believing these events are all connected, the desperate kingdom turns to a group of outlaws, the Poor Protectors, for help. As the mystery unravels, the Poor Protectors realize that more chaos awaits, unless they risk their lives by defeating the evils that lurk in the haunted Royal Forest. Each criminal finds newfound purpose in their sacrifice through acceptance, self-forgiveness, glory and redemption.
